Center for the Built Environment

The Center for the Built Environment (CBE) at UC Berkeley works to improve the environmental quality and energy efficiency of buildings by providing timely, unbiased information on building technologies, design and operation strategies. CBE believes that research about energy and the indoor environment must go hand-in-hand to create transformational change in the building industry. The Center studies promising new energy innovations and technologies, along with how people use and interact with buildings. CBE provides tools and guidance for building owners and professionals, and supports the development of improved standards to speed the adoption of effective technologies. Primary research areas include (1) indoor environmental quality, (2) advanced building HVAC systems, (3) building façade systems, and (4) human interactions.
